IBM Police protects Smart Cities

More cities are signing up with IBM (NYSE:IBM) to use its advanced analytics software to refine prevention programs and improving police investigations. Using advanced analytics software is a part of a growing trend among local governments as it allows them to use technology for improving services and safety of citizens despite budget constraints.

The latest to join are Rochester Police department and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Rochester and Las Vegas now join cities like Los Angeles, New York, and many others. There are now more than 3,000 police departments all over the country that are using IBM’s i2 crime analytics software.

Adding the IBM (NYSE:IBM ) crime fighting software enables police departments to organize and analyze data even when it is lying in different databases as departments using the software can form agreements for sharing information, which gives meaning to data that may otherwise appear to be unrelated and meaningless.

Solutions offered by the IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Smarter Cities allow city leaders to use tested ideas to minimize disruptions and promote sustainable growth and development. This is possible because it is possible for the authorities to see a unified view of all the agencies in the city and respond quickly as they are in a position to predict events.

Applying analytics technology for identification of crime patterns has emerged as the number one way to reduce city crimes. It is a kind of solution that gives consolidated information to decision makers so that they can take preventive action as it helps them to anticipate problems. This is obviously much better than just reacting after the harm has been done.

Latest technologies offered by IBM enable fast communications, actually real-time, that is needed to collaborating and coordinating actions to resolve problems efficiently. In the context of public services and utilities this can greatly reduce the impact of a situation that may have otherwise resulted in a crisis not to talk about reduction in repair costs.

Cities may choose to deploy the IBM Intelligent Operations Center within their data centers. In this case they require additional hardware and may also have to increase their management capacities. Cities constrained by their budgets can choose to avail it through the subscription service, which provides fast and secure Internet access to the capabilities offered by the center.

Solutions offered by IBM crime fighting software coupled with IBM Intelligent Operations Center and associated transportation solutions allow centralized monitoring which is very effective in reducing city crime, improving situational awareness for eliciting rapid responses to traffic congestion.
